Hello CCP
First I would like to take the opportunity of saying that I really enjoy your game. The game world, the customization, the social aspect and the aspiration of it all is just great. I love this game. Since it's came around, I have been enthralled by its universe. While other famous games took to the shelves, I found myself still hooked to Dust, working hard on contracts to get my character to where it needs to be. I never had an opportunity to get into EVE, so once I heard about Dust, I was eager to get into its world. I'm glad to be a part of something that I believe will only get better as the years pass.
Alas, we must get to the gist of my thread and the basis of its creation.
Prototype suits in public matches, it must stop.
Yes, I know you probably heard the Q.Q.ing going on about it. I'm sure someone has already covered its subject. But in light of the changes to the LAV (no more free murder taxis, you pay now), I was hoping to slip this request in.
Here I am, fresh out of academy and all I see is Protos. I didn't know what a Proto was until I heard a guy in the Team chat channel say,
"You can tell if they are Proto or not, by the red eyes and dark colored dropsuits"
So I took a gander in the Warbarge and what do you know. Majority of players had on Protos. So I go into battle, looking to make a name for myself in New Eden. I'm no pansy. I can take my whooping like a man. But I'm no fool either. In my current state, I just can't go toe to toe with a Proto. And I'm fresh out of Academy, with no corporation or help. I'm fighting for my own. That's also not a problem. I'm a loner. I can take it.
Yet and still, Proto suits in public matches shouldn't be. New guys like me are looking up a very steep uphill battle going against those guys.
I feel Proto suits should be only allowed in mercenary contracts, corp battles and PCs. It almost breaks my enthusiasm when I find a team full of red eyes going against me and some members of the team who are noob like me.
Now, CCP, I won't go into some tangent about threatening to leave the game if you won't change it. I would be a liar to say so. I love your game. I love what you are envisioning. I love what the future holds for Dust 514. If you didn't change it, well I would be upset but I would continue playing, honestly.
But I ask you CCP, take a look at this situation here. Protos don't belong in pubs. It's awful to leave academy and go straight to the meat grinder. The meat grinder being Protos. Maybe we can have an option that separates the Protos from the pub matches so that people who do want to go toe to toe with Protos in pub matches (maybe corps wanna train and such), they can do so. I hope you seriously consider this situation.
Cheers,

Thank you for your response.
Yea, I get peeved but I keep on going. But glad to hear that they are working on something to alleviate or make the playing field much more even. I don't mind the protos but I'm new and I'm running all default gear. LOL, I don't stand a chance. Doesn't keep me from trying to kill them though.
Also thank you for not throwing stones in my direction...its quite possible with this thread topic |

Once you get advanced gear you can go toe to toe with proto players decently, but until then you'll have to do your best picking your spots against players wwith top tier gear. I know that they "earn" their proto, but the thing is, they are driving newbies out of the game. Right now, a new person comes out of the battle academy with about a mil sp, walks into fights with guys who have 10+ and they can't really do much outside of feed points to the other team. CCP need to either do something to force proto stuff out of pub matches as often, or they need a matching system so that new people can actually function in-fight.
Thank you for expressing my sentiments. I understand they earned their suits. Theres no confusion there. But it feels like the recently graduated seniors from high school came back to pick fights with the freshmens. Go on to college.
I do understand that it's essentially the school of hard knocks, but my word, I'm just asking for some kind of footing so I can have the opportunity to hit back.
Right now, my skill progression is slow because of the protos. I'm getting pennies worth of SP, while I'm the SP cash cow for proto users. Then in effect because us guys aren't challenging enough (we die so easily), the proto users take to forums and complain about how boring it is. How CCP needs to improve games.
So if the scope is broaden you can see this "Proto Effect" in pub matches has two ways it alters the enjoyment of the game. |

The tendency is that people who have proto suits have been playing longer and are generally more skilled at the game. Again that is a problem that can be alleviated with better matchmaking.
In general I'd advise you to stick to skirmish battles or factional warfare and ALWAYS be in a squad. These are the game types my corp and I are least likely to pubstomp. Most of the hardcore players will typically play Ambush OMS so be wary about that.
Either way though people are going to put their best fits on regardless because there's almost no point not to at my level. I'm stocked with ~500 fully fitted proto fits and am sitting on about 140 million ISK. My fits cost ~140k each and I still make a profit. I have nothing better to do in this game other than pubstomp when I don't have PC matches. Give me an alternative game mode or something to do and I'll happily leave the newbies alone. I'm sure many other people have similar feelings. Agreed. I've played this game since August and to remove Proto suits from public matches would be yet another scat in the faces of us veterans. Yes, it gets irritating getting decimated, but most of us were where you are now. We had to get pub stomped to learn the ropes too. The irony of this is, CCP seems to do all it can to alienate us. We worked through deadly heavies, swipr kills by laser rifles, and the various nerfs and buffs just to get here. Now, I'm not going to talk smack because you're new, but it's a bunch of horse ***** that CCP is willing to break its back for "potential" new players but acts like the people who paid for merc packs and beta keys aren't worth a hooker's dildo. If they do nerf proto suits, it'll show once again that CCP only cares about the business it can get and not what it has. I mean damn, can one of you floppy sphincters answer the basic problems in this game BEFORE throwing new broken stuff at us?
To my knowledge, and correct me if I'm wrong, but you guys didn't have to go up against Proto fits. At least then in the early builds you guys were able to at least get a nice 1, 2 punch before dying. |

lithkul devant wrote:I actually agree with the OP in ways, the proto players have about 2-3x more SP then the people fresh out of academy, this makes it nearly impossible for them to win at times or even hurt the proto players...seriously I have lit a proto player up, the proto runs away a bit, full shield within 4 seconds about, then kills me, even though in a regular battle on any other game I should have won.
I do think that pub matches should not allow all proto type suits and weapons until certain things are fixed, so that each team will have a roughly similar amount of SP total between all the players of a team (I've seen a game that has been on ambush oms 70-0 and I was on the team with 0) I don't mind loosing, even getting stomped once in a while, but I want to feel that I at least had a chance and that my team could have won or least somewhat hold their own.
That's all that I ask for as well.
Like I said, if they don't change it or better the matchmaking (as members of the community enlightened me to what is actually the problem), I will just suck it up and hope they're still playing (vets with protos) by the time I get Proto so I can return the favor.
Still love playing this game even if my metal rear end gets handed to me... |

That's not accurate. The majority of your "active" SP is earned simply by being in a match. 5 SP per second in fact, while you earn a measly 1 SP per WP. CCP does this precisely for you, the beginner. A 15 minute match yields 4,500 SP without firing a shot or hacking a single objective. If you do exceptional and earn 1k WPs you get 5,500 SP, not a huge difference. CCP does this to greatly diminish the difference in progression speed between high and low WP earners (no matter the reason) so nobody sprints too far ahead or gets left behind. It's important enough to them that they are willing to put up with AFK play to keep it.
I believe you don't understand. My SP progression is slower. If I'm running against guys who mostly proto and I run in default fits (its not because of my choosing, its because I have to until I level), then my SP is slower because of my WP gain.
How can I accumulate WP, which is integral to me gaining SP, when it takes much more to kill a proto player? Unless he's worn down, I'm meeting an end rather quickly. Yea I can hack installations, but I also need to help my team. I get more points for a kill than I do assist.
And I believe you're math is way wrong. There's no way possible a 15 minute match yields 4.500 SP without firing a shot or hacking a single objective. That doesn't make sense.
Are you playing the same game or am I being trolled? |

This game is rough to new players you just have to deal with it for a while till you have around 4 mill in sp. Also i find it strange that you were so excited about this game and that you wanted to play it, but you just got out of the academy which means you ether have a alt or you have only been playing the game for about 2 weeks and never seen its true potential.
Are you keeping up with the information or are you skimming posts? Have you ever heard of creating a character, leaving it alone and then returning? That is not possible, you presume? Don't preach to me about potential. I have explained countless times in this thread that I am voicing an opinion but if they don't remove the protos for pub matches, I will continue to play. I enjoy this game. Please comprehend and read every post before you decide to accuse someone of something. |

So are you guys really saying that bad performance on the battlefield has no effect on SP? So I can score 1/10, get 50 WP points and still make above 2000 SP? Frankly that doesn't make any sense.

It's important enough to them that they are willing to put up with AFK play to keep it. Hmm? I get 3k SP per match all the time. I don't quite understand where you got 5 sp a sec from. But besides the point, we play DUST to shoot faceless enemies, and collect tears. It's just not fun to get crushed and brutally slaughtered 10 times in an attempt to kill one protosuit, people in their mind start thinking that the game is imbalanced, especially in the "Safe" zone of DUST. Instant battles are essentially the High sec of DUST, and proto is similar to the Capitals of DUST, something we aspire to have, and look up to. And if you want a lore reason, CONCORD wants to test every bit of combat tech so, since proto hasn't been safety/impact/ROE certified, so TACNET locks any gear which it doesn't have an archive of.
Point taken and understood. I shall HTFU and stay vigilant. |
